An Altrincham man who smashed up a taxi after burgling a house has been jailed.

Jamie McCullough, 34, of Thornlea Road, was sentenced to four years after pleading guilty to burglary, damage to property, possession of a bladed article, making off without payment and a public order offence.

The court heard how, on June 13th 2021, McCullough burgled a house on Moss Lane in Hale before making off with numerous stolen items including a knife, laptops, credit cards and an iPod.

McCullough was jailed for four years

He then ordered a taxi to Barton Dock Road in Stretford but after arguing with the driver over the cost of his fare, McCullough became aggressive and pulled out the stolen knife, before kicking and smashing the rear window of the car in an attempt to escape.

The driver was able to flag down a passing police car and officers quickly detained and arrested McCullough after a short pursuit.

Police then recovered the knife and a black bag containing two of the stolen laptops.

During his police interview, McCullough admitted to burgling the house and causing damage to the taxi.
