A Sale man has been charged with possession of an offensive weapon and aggravated burglary after a violent incident in Altrincham.

Jason Edwards, 35, of Marthall Drive, was arrested in the early hours of Monday morning after the incident in Lloyd Gardens on Sunday.

He has since been detained in police custody and has now been charged with the offence.

An investigation was launched by Greater Manchester Police‘s Trafford Criminal Investigation Department following reports that a man concealing a bladed weapon had gone to an address in Lloyd Gardens.

The victim reported that the man had knocked on the door and, when her friend opened it, had entered her property brandishing the weapon and demanding to speak to the homeowner. He left when it became apparent the person he was seeking wasn’t in.

A statement from GMP added: “As soon as the report came through, our officers acted quickly to track down this highly dangerous individual.”

Edwards is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court this morning.
