Hale, Altrincham and Sale-based estate agency Watersons has been named the ‘Best Letting Agent in the North’ for the first time.

Watersons was judged to be the Gold winner in the Letting Agent in the North category at the prestigious British Property Awards.

It has previously claimed the title at a more local level, but this is the first time the estate agent has won the award for the whole of the Northern region.

“I’m really proud of the team,” said founder Peter Waterson.

“It’s testament to the work the team has done, headed by Theo Teal, who has been with the company for 13 years.”

Watersons manages almost 300 rental properties from its offices - in Hale village and in Sale town centre - with a team of 10 staff focused purely on lettings and property management.

“We have doubled the size of our rentals business in five years, and this award is the culmination of the work we have put in to this on behalf of our landlord clients,” said Waterson, who founded the agency nearly 25 years ago.

He said that the rentals market in the Altrincham and Sale areas had benefited recently from the cooling of the sales market.

“Many house sellers have chosen to move into rented accommodation when their house is sold to break the chain. Equally, renting your property out is a good option for people who may be struggling to sell their property.’’

Waterson said that competition from other estate agents in the local area was as strong as he could remember, but said the ‘’the consistency within the Watersons team, a quarter of which have been with us at least 10 years, and the credibility of the advice we give, has enabled us to be a strong market leading estate agency for nearly 25 years.’’.

He added: “We are an independent owner-run business, we are not a corporate business, we are big enough to be meaningful but small enough to ensure our directors are all totally hands on every day."

Watersons will be receiving their prize at the British Property Awards ceremony in London later this year.
