The Altrincham Garrick’s famous annual pantomime returns this Saturday with the first of 26 shows over Christmas.
This year’s show will be Cinderella, with audiences guaranteed wonderful costumes, laughter, music, slapstick, special effects and songs to make your feet tap.
Eighty per cent of the tickets are already sold – the best remaining seats are for the 7.30pm shows, the two matinees on New Year’s Eve and those in the New Year.
A pantomime at the Garrick has been a fixture since December 1964 and is one of the most popular local events of the festive season. Last year’s performance of Sleeping Beauty (pictured above) was another sellout.
Theatre manager Nev Roby said: “Why go to a pantomime in Manchester where the ticket price for a family of four costs the earth plus having all the hassle of getting there and back again, not to mention the parking?
“Two extra matinees have been added on New Year’s Eve this year to cope with the demand for tickets. All this places an enormous stress on everyone at the theatre but the laughter and smiles it puts on people’s faces make it all worthwhile. The enjoyment it brings every year is priceless. Long may it continue!”
