A new volunteer-led online radio station is launching in Altrincham – and it’s looking for local residents to get involved.
Radio Alty is the brainchild of local volunteer group Altrincham Community Media and will feature talk shows, live music and other content about the town and its people.
It will be run on a not-for-profit basis, with any proceeds used to provide opportunities for local people to train in media skills.
Rod Maxwell, from Altrincham Community Media, said: “Radio Alty is about giving the community a voice. We live in such a fantastically vibrant town but at the moment we don’t have a local radio station where we can showcase what’s going on, talk about community issues and celebrate the uniqueness of Altrincham.
“We want to give much needed airtime to the many talented artists and performers who live and perform in the area.”
The team of volunteers – Rod Maxwell, Annie Aylmer, Sam Hodkin, Stephen Carlton-Woods and Ross Heaviside – will broadcast from Open Studios on Stamford New Road, working alongside Jo Cushing, CEO of Altrincham Open Studios.
The team is on the lookout for for local sponsors and funding to help them raise a further £5,000 and be able to begin broadcasting live from the town centre from April.
