From Oppenheimer to Wagatha Christie: Altrincham Garrick unveils new season line-up

The programme has been designed to appeal to all ages.

Altrincham Garrick Playhouse has announced the next selection of gripping dramas, beloved musicals and family-friendly productions for its 2024/25 season.

The programme, which has been designed to appeal to all ages, starts with The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time in February and continues through to Beautiful: The Carole King Musical, in June.

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time

Written by Mark Haddon, Adapted by Simon Stephens. Directed by Joseph Meighan

3rd - 8th February 2025

The season kicks off with Simon Stephens’ brilliant adaptation of Mark Haddon’s bestseller. This compelling play, performed by The Garrick Ensemble, follows the story of Christopher, a 15-year-old boy with an extraordinary mind who embarks on a forbidden investigation after a dog is found dead. The Garrick Ensemble showcases the next generation of acting talent from Greater Manchester and Cheshire.

Oppenheimer

Written by Tom Morton-Smith,Directed by John Cunningham, Associate Director Carole Carr

24th February - 1st March 2025

Tom Morton-Smith’s powerful play explores the mind of J. Robert Oppenheimer and the creation of the atomic bomb. Originally produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company, this historical drama delves into the ethical conflicts, political intrigue, and human cost of the Manhattan Project.

The Worst Witch

Adapted by Emma Reeves from Jill Murphy’s books

4th - 17th April 2025

Join Mildred Hubble and her friends in this Olivier Award-winning family show that takes audiences into the world of Miss Cackle’s Academy for Witches. With magic, music, and mayhem, this Easter play is perfect for children and adults alike.

Of Mice and Men

Written by John Steinbeck. Directed by Joseph Meighan

8th - 17th May 2025

Steinbeck’s enduring tale of friendship and survival during the Great Depression comes to life on stage. This heart-wrenching play explores themes of hope, exclusion, and the harsh realities of life. Due to its powerful content, this production is recommended for ages 12 and over.

Vardy v Rooney: The Wagatha Christie Trial

Adapted by Liz Hennessey, Directed by Dan Ellis

2nd - 7th June 2025

Relive the sensational “Wagatha Christie” trial that gripped the nation. This courtroom comedy hilariously recounts the celebrity feud between Coleen Rooney and Rebekah Vardy, combining satire with real-life drama.

Beautiful: The Carole King Musical

Directed by Joseph Meighan, Musical Direction by Mark Goggins

23rd - 29th June 2025

This Broadway hit tells the inspiring story of Carole King’s rise to stardom, featuring timeless hits like "You've Got a Friend", "The Loco-Motion", and “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman". Beautiful celebrates the power of music and one woman’s journey to becoming an icon.
