From arts hub to wedding venue, Altrincham Town Hall is thriving again

It's the last heritage space in the town centre still available for public use.

As well as a vibrant arts hub, Altrincham’s historic heart is once again a thriving home for weddings and other events.

For over a century, Altrincham Town Hall has been at the heart of some of the town’s most significant moments, from weddings and celebrations to the homecoming of Victoria Cross war hero Bill Speakman.

Today, this unique setting is the last heritage space in the town centre still available for public use.

When Trafford Council listed the Town Hall for disposal in 2022, local residents rallied together to save it, with almost 2,000 people signing a petition to keep it as a community space. OYEZ Arts stepped in, winning the bid to preserve and revitalise the building.

It is now run and managed by OYEZ Arts co-founders Jo Cushing and Jodie Saint - and a few months since they got the keys, the Town Hall is once again proving a popular, and very affordable, venue.

With its elegant period features, high ceilings and beautiful natural light, it provides a timeless backdrop for both wedding ceremonies and receptions. Local businesses, too, are increasingly returning to the space for events.

“We had a few months to find our feet and settle in and we are now confident in our ability to provide a really quality service. Everyone using the space has commented on the difference so far,” said OYEZ Arts co-founder Jodie.

“As a venue this is a truly unique space. Couples love the light, the heritage features and the personal approach we offer that make the day special. It’s also really cost-effective as keeping costs affordable is key to our community offer.

“From hosting the perfect ceremony, to champagne receptions or even allowing exclusive hire for a wedding banquet, there are lots of options and no shortage of creative vision to make the space your own.”

More than just a venue: The Thrive 2025 initiative

Beyond weddings and events, OYEZ Arts is breathing new life into the Town Hall through Thrive 2025, an initiative designed to bring the community together through creativity and wellbeing.

The programme offers a variety of cultural and artistic activities aimed at making the town hall a space where people can connect, create and feel inspired.

From art workshops and creative wellbeing sessions to music performances and community events, Thrive 2025 is all about fostering a sense of belonging in Altrincham. The team welcomes ideas from local people, inviting the community to help shape the programme.

“If you have an activity you’d love to see in Altrincham, get in touch,” said Jo. “We’re creating a space where everyone can participate, whether through classes, events or volunteering.”

Jodie added: “Altrincham Town Hall is 123 years old and has a rich history of serving the community. Now, we want to protect it for future generations while bringing something exciting to the town.”
