Members of a local dementia-friendly choir appeared in a special Coronation Street episode that aired on New Year's Day.

Vibrant Voices, run by The Music Place and based in Bowdon, performed during Debbie's wedding ceremony in the episode, which was broadcast at 8pm on ITV1.

Choir members attended filming earlier late last year, describing it as an exciting and heartwarming experience. The cast and crew were extremely welcoming, with actress Sue Devaney (Debbie) taking time to chat, pose for photos and even enjoy an impromptu singalong with the group.

Vibrant Voices leaders said they were "delighted and honoured" to have been asked to take part.

"It was a truly memorable day for our singers. To be recognised and included as an authentic dementia-friendly choir means so much to us," they said.

The choir said they hoped the storyline would encourage families to seek out and celebrate activities that enrich life after diagnosis.

"We hope this feature helps people feel empowered by the great joys that can still be experienced while living with dementia. Group singing offers connection, confidence, community - and lots of smiles."

Vibrant Voices welcomes people living with dementia, anxiety, Parkinson's, stroke survivors, along with their friends, families and carers. No musical experience is needed - just a love of singing or a willingness to give it a try.
