A 23-year-old entrepreneur from Altrincham is behind plans to create the UK’s largest adults-only ball pit.
Andrew Woodrow’s Ball Mania MCR will be packing over 120,000 colourful balls into the Pumpyard area of The Printworks in Manchester city centre.
It follows a smaller event last October which proved very popular with adults looking to recreate the joy of an activity usually only found in children’s soft play centres.
This time, the pit will be open over the May Day Bank Holiday, April 28th to May 1st, from 10am to 10pm each day.
Sessions are 30 minutes in length and tickets cost £8. The company will then be taking the pit on a UK tour to eight cities.
Woodrow said he had the original idea while on holiday.
“I was abroad and sat by the pool but it was overcast and the pool wasn’t very warm,” he said. “I was thinking about the ways in which you could make it useable all year round and had the crazy idea of turning it into a giant ball pit.”
He said peoples’ fascination with ball pits stemmed from memories of their childhoods.
“It’s a nostalgia thing – people remember going to soft play centres and the feeling of being a kid.
“The other thing is that in modern society lots of people have office jobs, nine to five, and it’s a way for people to let out their inner child.”
The pit itself is modular and can be turned into any shape up to 81 square metres in size.
A total of 2,400 tickets are available for the Bank Holiday weekend – you can book here.
