County Galleries, Altrincham’s oldest art gallery, has announced it is to close later this year.
Occupying a Grade II listed building on Railway Street, County Galleries has been in operation for over 45 years.
The distinctive Edwardian building, which dates to 1900 and previously housed the County Bank and then the NatWest Bank, has been up for sale for a number of weeks.
County Galleries has now confirmed via a statement on Facebook that it will be closing “later in the year”.
It said: “We just wanted to let you all know the County Galleries Building is up for sale. We will be closing later in the year.
“We would like to thank you greatly for all you support over the years.”
Owned by Chris and Rachel Underwood, County Galleries once sold originals by the likes of LS Lowry and Sir William Russell Flint.
It continues to sell originals and prints by known and emerging artists.
The 2,969 sq ft building is up for sale for £950,000.
