A lap dancing club in Altrincham is applying for a new license after a plan to redevelop it into apartments was refused.
An application for a renewal of a sex establishemnt license has been lodged by Parisian Bistro Ltd, the company behind Totties.
Totties has been a fixture on The Causeway in Altrincham town centre for many years and last had its licence renewed by Trafford Council as recently as 2020.
However, it has remained closed since the Covid pandemic and also the death of its owner, Roy Dodd, in December 2020.
Its days were thought to be numbered when Charlotte Street Estates Ltd applied for ‘permission in principle’ to change the use of part of the ground and first floors from the lap dancing club and retail unit to allow for the construction of three apartments.
The plan had also involved adding an additional storey for further four self-contained apartments on the second floor.
But Trafford Council's planning department knocked back that application in January on the grounds that the proposed development would be "over-dominant, contrived and incongruous in its context".
"The public benefits of the development do not outweigh the identified harm to the designated heritage assets," said Rebecca Coley, Head of Planning and Development at Trafford Council.
"In addition, the proposed development would have a detrimental impact
on the character and visual appearance of the street scene and the surrounding area."
It's not known whether Charlotte Street Estates Ltd will be returning with a revised plan.
On February 28th, Parisian Bistro Ltd lodged an application for the sex establishment license with Trafford Council.
It is looking for permission to trade between the hours of 8am and 2am on Tuesday and Wednesday, and 8am to 3am from Thursday to Sunday.
Anyone wishing to make a representation in respect of the application has until March 27th to do so, by emailing licensing@trafford.gov.uk.
