It’s been a busy week of comings and goings at the club with two players leaving and three arriving.
Callum Preston left after the 2-0 defeat at Gainsborough Trinity. He travels from the Midlands and wants to be playing regularly and when I reinstated Andrew Dawber in goal, last Saturday, he felt that his future lay elsewhere and we wish him all the best.
Jamie Menagh saw his first action of the season as a second-half substitute at Gainsborough, played for the reserves in the 1-1 draw at Knutsford on Tuesday evening, before being offered a two-year contract with Airbus UK Broughton from the Welsh Premier League, which he signed on Thursday.
I had Jamie with me at Chester and Stockport and I think that it’s fair to say that things haven’t gone as well as both Jamie & I hoped at Altrincham… hopefully things will work out well for him in North Wales.
The last couple of days have been very busy. I have been looking to sign a central defender since Tom Hannigan suffered a medial ligament injury at Halifax on August 9th and on Thursday we brought in Jon Moran from Forest Green Rovers on a one-month loan.
Jon signed a two-year deal for the Gloucestershire side in June, joining from Nantwich Town. He is only 19 but has a good grounding in the Crewe Academy, before joining the Dabbers, who he shone for last season in both the Evo-Stik League Premier Division and their impressive run to the FA Trophy Semi-Finals, where they were knocked out by the eventual winners, FC Halifax Town.
Yesterday, two more players joined. Fabio Bassangue has been training with us for the past couple of weeks, but we have had to wait for international clearance for a player who is from Guinea-Bissau.
Fabio is a very combative midfielder, who has played in Portugal and France, joining us following a short spell at Airbus.
Emile Sinclair is a strong, pacy forward, who has played most of his career in the Football League for the likes of Nottingham Forest, Macclesfield, Peterborough, Crawley, Northampton and York City.
Watch highlights from Emile Sinclair’s career:
He left York in the summer when his 18-month contract ended and like Jon and Fabio, he is available for today’s game against Curzon Ashton.
Today’s game is quickly followed by a trip to Kidderminster on Bank Holiday Monday and that gives us the opportunity to start to put things right, following the debacle of the hammering against Fylde and another disappointing display at Gainsborough last Saturday.
