Trafford Council apologises after rise in self-isolating staff forces it to abandon today’s green bin collection

Trafford Council has apologised after an increase in staff having to self-isolate meant it could not collect any green bins today.

Trafford Council has apologised after an increase in staff having to self-isolate meant it could not collect any green bins today.

The local authority had said last week that, in response to feedback from residents following the decision to stop collecting green bins last week, it would be collecting green bins between today and Friday 17th April, on a one-off basis.

But with more staff having to stay at home, Trafford had to abandon plans to resume the service this morning.

It said: “The coronavirus continues to impact on collections and our ability to provide a full waste and recycling service. Unfortunately due to an increase in the number of staff self-isolating over the weekend, green bins will not be collected today, Monday 6 April.

“Please bear with us at this time. We are doing everything possible to maintain the service as best we can. The information is reviewed daily so may change at short notice.”

Trafford said it is doing everything possible to collect bins from tomorrow, and has advised residents to present green bins or green caddies for collection on residents’ scheduled black bin day, as well as the black bin.

Households are limited to presenting a maximum of two green bins for collection.
