The Office of National Statistics has revealed today that of the 54 people who died in Trafford of all causes in the week ending May 22nd, 12 were linked to Covid-19, with seven of those in a care home, three in a hospital, one at home and one in a hospice.

This means the number of Trafford deaths linked to Covid-19 has now fallen for five successive weeks, from 38 deaths in the week ending April 24th, to 35 in the week ending May 1st, then 21 in the week to May 8th and 13 in the week to May 15th.

Across the UK, the total number of deaths involving Covid-19 is now believed to be just under 50,000.

Death registrations in England and Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland show 48,896 deaths in the UK where Covid-19 was mentioned on the death certificate, and a further 819 hospital patients in England who had tested positive for Covid-19 died between May 23rd and 31st, according to figures published yesterday by NHS England.

The suggests the overall death toll for the UK is now just over 49,700.
