Pubs and gyms in Altrincham look set to be allowed to remain open when a new three-tiered traffic light system is unveiled by the Prime Minister this afternoon.
Boris Johnson will address the House of Commons at 3.30pm and follow that with a TV address to the nation at 6pm.
Coronavirus case numbers have increased dramatically across the North in recent weeks, with the latest figure for Trafford – for the week ending October 8th – at 318.5 cases per 100,000 population.
And there had been speculation that the whole of Greater Manchester would be placed in Tier 3, the toughest level of restrictions, with pubs, bars and gyms all forced to shut their doors.
But after a call with Secretary of State Matt Hancock earlier today, Jim McMahon, MP for Oldham West and Royton, said he could “confirm” that Greater Manchester will only be placed in Tier 2.
The exact nature of Tier 2 restrictions will be confirmed later, but it’s not expected to be that much different from the local lockdown restrictions that Trafford has been under since July 30th.
McMahon tweeted: “Call with the Secretary of State confirms GM will be placed in Tier 2 with household restrictions on meeting indoors in any setting, but not outdoors Pubs serving food remain open Oldham will be removed from its enhanced lockdown measures and brought into line with GM at last.”
