The infection rate in Trafford has fallen below the national average for the first time since September, latest data from Public Health England has revealed.

The total number of cases in the borough for the week ending November 19th was 212.3 per 100,000 people.

That’s a week-on-week drop of 41%, the sharpest fall of any council area in the Greater Manchester region.

The positive news is reflected across Greater Manchester, with all areas well down on a week-on-week basis.

The highest rate in Greater Manchester is in Oldham, where the rate is 418.8 per 100,000, but even that number is down 31% week on week.

And the average for the whole of Greater Manchester now stands at its lowest since September, at 310.4. The current UK average is 228.9.

The news comes as Boris Johnson prepares to announce which tier Greater Manchester will be placed in. If as expected it is Tier 3, pubs and restaurants will be limited to a takeaway or delivery service. Non-essential shops and gyms, however, will be allowed to reopen.
