Bin collection days will change for two weeks with no collections on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, Trafford Council has confirmed.
Over the Christmas week, bin collections will start on Wednesday 27 December, meaning residents should present their bin two days later than usual. For the week beginning 1 January, bin collections will start on 2 January, meaning residents should present their bins one day later than usual. The bin collection service will return to normal on 8 January 2018.
Residents should check their new 2017-2018 bin collection calendar which shows their alternative bin collection days over the festive season. The new calendars were delivered to households through November.
Trafford Council’s Executive Member for Economic Growth, Environment and Infrastructure, Cllr John Reilly, said: “We understand that over the festive period that extra waste is created, therefore the Council, through the One Trafford Partnership, is ensuring residents are able to dispose of this easily.
“Residents will be able to leave up to two small bags of non-recyclable rubbish next to their grey bin on the first collection after Christmas. Similarly, any extra cardboard can be placed next to the blue bin. Please note that any extra waste placed to the side of the bin after this first collection will not be removed.
“To help further, in addition to the delivery of green compostable bags, this year they are freely available in all council libraries across Trafford.”
Any households with additional waste may wish to take it to one of the recycling centres on Chester Road, Stretford or Sinderland Lane, Altrincham. The centres are open from 8am to 6pm, Monday to Sunday except Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.
