Timperley village will have Christmas lights again this year after a successful crowdfunding campaign from local residents and businesses.
Following the award of an Inclusive Neighbourhood Grant from the Council in August, Stuart Donnelly led a campaign to raise funds for the lights.
Through social media campaigning and sponsorship of a Christmas tree decorating competition for local children, Donnelly raised £1,837 to cover the costs of the village lights.
He said: “As the council is no longer able to pay for the borough’s Christmas lights, I wanted to make sure local residents and visitors to the village can still enjoy a festive feel. It is an uplifting way to end a very difficult year.”
He said that any leftover funds will roll over to next year. The money raised goes directly to Trafford Council who then pay the supplier.
