Altrincham named the best place to raise a family in the region

It beat Didsbury and Bramhall to the top spot.

Altrincham has been named the best place to raise a family in the Manchester area, according to new research that analysed key factors important to parents across the region.

The study, conducted by Bell Financial Solutions, examined school quality, crime rates, commuter links to Manchester city centre and housing affordability across seven popular family areas.

Altrincham emerged as the clear winner. With a median house price of £406,000, the town provides access to some of the country's top-rated schools, with numerous primary and secondary schools in the area achieving Outstanding ratings from Ofsted.

The town's excellent transport links were also a key factor in securing the top position. Families can reach Manchester city centre in just 25 minutes via the Metrolink tram system or train services, making it an attractive option for commuting parents.

Crime rates in Altrincham were rated as low to medium.

Didsbury came second in the rankings despite having a shorter commute time of 10-20 minutes to the city centre. However, the South Manchester suburb was marked down due to slightly higher crime rates and a median house price of £436,000.

Bramhall in Stockport rounded out the top three, with Prestwich (4th), Chorlton (5th), Sale (6th) and Cheadle (7th).

Daniel Bell, Director and Mortgage Adviser at Bell Financial Solutions, said: "There's a lot to weigh up when choosing where to put down roots as a family, but focusing on a few key factors can make the decision far clearer.

"Strong schools and low crime levels are non-negotiables for most parents, but it's rare to find them balanced with good transport links and access to a vibrant city centre. That's what makes Altrincham such an appealing choice right now."

The research drew data from property websites Zoopla and Rightmove, Ofsted school ratings, and crime statistics from Police UK.
