Mayor's parting gift sees hydrangea plants distributed to local parks

They were donated to to Friends of Parks groups across Trafford.

Outgoing Mayor of Trafford Cllr Jane Brophy has marked the end of her mayoral year with a colourful gift to the borough's parks and green spaces.

Cllr Brophy donated around 100 hydrangea plants, purchased from Timperley's own Chris Walker Plants, to Friends of Parks groups across Trafford.

The plants were handed out over the bank holiday weekend across five hubs covering all corners of the borough, with the John Leigh Park Hub serving as the local distribution point for Altrincham and surrounding areas.

Parks and green spaces in the hub to receive plants included John Leigh Park, Stamford Park, Halecroft Park, Dunham Park, Navigation Road Park, Woodheys Park, Newton Park, Woodstock Park, Pickering Lodge, Timperley Green, De-Quincey Park, Denzell Gardens and Moss Park Gardens.

Local civic societies - including Altrincham in Bloom, Hale Civic Society, Timperley Civic Society, Altrincham Civic Society and Friends of Moss Park Gardens - also received plants.

Cllr Brophy, who has spent her mayoral year raising money for good causes with Trafford's parks at the heart of her efforts, personally handed over the plants to volunteers and Friends of Parks representatives.

She said: "Supporting Trafford parks and our green spaces throughout my Mayoral fundraising year has been very important to me. Green spaces make a real difference to our physical health and mental wellbeing - they give people places to walk, meet, reflect, and connect with nature.

"I also want to recognise the remarkable contribution of volunteers. Their commitment helps make Trafford a healthier and more connected borough for everyone."

Shelly Quinton-Hulme, Chairperson of The Friends of Trafford Parks and Green Spaces, said: "This was a wonderful gesture from the Mayor. Thank you so much to Cllr Brophy for these wonderful plants that will hopefully live in our parks for many years to come - and a big thank you from everyone connected to Trafford's parks for her incredible fundraising efforts throughout the year."

The other four hubs to receive plants were Cross Lane Park Hub in Partington, Davyhulme Park Hub in Urmston, Victoria Park Hub in Stretford, and Worthington Park Hub in Sale.
