Manchester Airport has come under fire after its jobs fair today caused traffic chaos and left many candidates disappointed.

The Runway Visitor Park event, where 3,000 jobs were on offer from the likes of Jet2.com and Costa Coffee, was inundated with thousands more people than expected.

The numbers looking to attend the event led to severe traffic congestion in the area, especially on the M56 and around Hale Barns.

Many prospective candidates, who were forced to give up on their journey to the Altrincham venue, have been promised another fair at Easter by airport managers.

Dave Thompson, a cameraman and producer from Hale Barns, said the event was “really disorganised” with just a small entrance near The Romper pub expected to cater for “thousands of cars and buses”.

“I was curious as to what was causing all the traffic problems around Hale Barns so I went to find out,” he said.

“It was taking people an hour and a half just to travel two miles down Hale Road through Hale Barns. People were just leaving their cars and walking.”

There was also criticism on social media for the event organisers, with many who did make it believing they would get an interview on the day, only to be handed a flyer and told to apply online.

Mark Livesey, from Heald Green, said the fair had been “absolute pandemonium” and the event had been a “waste of time”.
