Altrincham FC is to host a celebrity football match to raise funds in memory of Isaac Maley, a 10-year-old Bowdon schoolboy who died suddenly last August.

Actor Ralf Little, from The Royle Family, and the X Factor’s Jake Quickenden are among the celebrities who are confirmed for the Moss Lane event, to be held on Sunday April 24th.

Isaac, a pupil at Bowdon C of E School, suffered a severe asthma attack and died on August 22nd last year.

His mum and dad, Vicky and Andrew, wanted to give something back to Once Upon a Smile, a grief counselling charity that had helped them in the wake of Isaac’s sudden passing.

And Andrew Brannan, the father of one of Isaac’s friends Louie, is now helping to put the football match and fun day – called There’s Only One Isaac Maley – together.

He told us: “We went to see (Altrincham chairman) Grahame Rowley about doing a charity event and he agreed instantly, and the club have been amazing, they have really pushed the boat out.

“The reaction from people so far has been fantastic and we’re hoping for a sell-out on the day.”

The day will begin with a match at 12 noon between Altrincham FC Tigers and a team from Bowdon C of E School, two teams Isaac played for.

Tickets cost just £2 for adults and £1 for children and can be bought in advance here.

Anyone who cannot attend on the day but would still like to donate to Once Upon a Smile can visit Isaac’s page here.
