The man behind well-known Manchester restaurant Don Giovanni has invested £500,000 in a new restaurant and bar in Hale village.
Adam Karim is to open European-influenced restaurant People next month in the Ashley Road site formerly occupied by Karam, Côte Brasserie and Hale Grill.
People will open seven days a week, 9am until late, and will serve breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner alongside an “extensive menu of hand-crafted cocktails, Laurent Perrier Rose champagne by the glass and craft beers”.
The menu will feature dishes including sustainable Scottish oysters with pickled shallots, shwarma-spiced cauliflower steak and a Josper charcoal grill smoking a selection of 56-day dry aged British beef steaks.
There will also be a Sunday roast dinner menu, a variety of vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free offerings, and a full children’s menu.
Inside, the 80-cover restaurant – with space for a further 50 in the bar area and 30 outside – will feature Venetian polished plaster, bronzed wood panelling, Terrazo table tops, herringbone wooden flooring and upcycled teak art deco furniture pieces.
People says it will be sourcing much of its food locally, including all its beef from Althams in Macclesfield, Great North Pie Co. for pies, artisan bread from Altrincham Market and ice cream from Grandpa Greene’s in Oldham.
As the owner of Ask Ventures, Karim has spent the past decade as owner of Don Giovanni, Manchester’s oldest independently-owned Italian restaurant, and was also owner of Manchester bar Mahiki.
He said that he and his team were looking forward to bringing their experience to Hale.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming the Hale residents and visitors into People and becoming part of this thriving community,” he said.
“We will be serving the finest, freshest produce within exquisite yet friendly surroundings, which I’ve no doubt this village will appreciate as much as myself and the team appreciate the chance to bring our experience to this thriving area.”
The corner site has been vacant since 2019, when Lebanese restaurant Karam closed its doors only months after opening.
