Almost a thousand patients vaccinated at a recently closed GP practice in Timperley have been recalled.
The move follows the discovery of a temperature problem with a refrigerator used to store vaccines at Timperley Health Centre, potentially impacting their effectiveness.
A total of 981 patients, some of them children, may have been affected.
Dr Kuan and Dr Pickup’s surgery at the centre was closed on Friday when both doctors decided to resign for personal reasons.
Dr Raj Patel, from NHS England, said: “Drs Kuan and Pickup resigned from their GP contract in August 2015. At this time, we identified a potential problem with the temperature control in the refrigerator used to store vaccines.
“Because of this, we believe it appropriate as a precautionary measure, to contact the individuals concerned and invite them for an immunisation assessment.
“We are extremely sorry for the undoubted worry and concern patients from this practice may feel on receiving this news. I would however like to stress the risk to their health is extremely low.
“It is important however that those patients we have contacted follow the advice provided to arrange an immunisation assessment for themselves and/or their children, so that we can be sure they are fully protected.”
