An iconic Spitfire plane is to pass over Altrincham on Sunday as part of a special tribute to NHS staff across the country.
The “Thank U NHS” Spitfire will carry the names of 80,000 NHS staff, family members, neighbours and friends nominated by members of the public in recognition of their efforts over the Covid-19 pandemic.
The plane – which will have ‘Thank U NHS’ written on its underside – will take off from Duxford Airfield near Cambridge at 10am on Sunday, August 30, before heading north to Blackpool Airpott and taking off again at 2pm.
It will pass over Trafford General at 2.49pm and then Wythenshawe Hospital at 2.53pm.
Route timings are subject to slight change during flight, and routes may be postponed if there’s low cloud or rain.
And people are being offered the chance to nominate the name of a loved one to be handwritten onto the plane in aid of NHS Charities together for as little as £10, with room for 80,000 names on it.
