A Timperley-based care at home provider has marked its 10th anniversary by being named a Top 20 care provider - for the ninth year in a row.

Right at Home has once again been recognised in homecare.co.uk’s annual Homecare Awards, which reveals the 20 top-rated home care providers in each region across the UK.

The award puts Right at Home in the top 20 of almost 1,300 homecare providers in the North West, an accolade that is much appreciated by managing director Mark Beeby and his team.

He said: “It’s so important for us because everything is about quality first - that's our ethos.

“The greatest satisfaction is the difference that we make to people's lives, and when we get positive feedback from clients or their families.  That makes it all worthwhile and you really feel like you've made a difference.”

Mark launched the South Trafford franchise for Right at Home UK, one of the largest homecare providers in the country, with over 80 franchise offices.

“Right at Home provides care for the elderly and people with disabilities so that they can stay at home and maintain their independence,” said Mark.

“It can be everything from a bit of companionship, shopping or home help, to 24-hour live-in care.”

Mark said that care plans are tailored to every client’s needs, with caregivers also matched on compatibility. “Sometimes it's two opposites who really click,” Mark added.

He said: “Elderly people can be quite resistant, especially men from the war generation who were taught not to show weakness and keep a brave face.

“We always say we're here to help you maintain your independence with assistance and to keep doing the things you enjoy, not to take that away.”

Mark said that it was a good idea to start care early, rather than waiting until it becomes an absolute necessity.

“We encourage people to start early - they don't have to have care seven days a week, they can just have a few calls just to get it started. As people's needs change, we adapt the care plans to achieve the best outcomes for them. It is very important to prevent falls and hospitalisation.”

Right at Home South Trafford is registered with the Care Quality Commission, with care coordinated locally by a team based at Caidan House, off Canal Road in Timperley.

Mark stressed that there was a high emphasis on staff training, as well as the importance of career development and promoting from within.

He said that while recruitment had become harder with greater competition locally, a particular appeal of care-giving as a career was the lack of ageism.

“Our youngest member of staff is 20 and our oldest retired only last year at the age of 72,” he added.

“Clients sometimes want older people as caregivers because they can relate to them a bit better.

“The companionship element of the care is a big part of what we do - it’s not all about personal care or medication administration. Mental wellbeing is as important for good health and part of our care philosophy.

“Our clients are often on their own or widowed or they’re living with dementia. Our trusted and highly trained CareGivers are there to provide a listening ear and lift their spirits, stamping out loneliness and isolation.”
