"It’s transformed my life": Local entrepreneur opens clinic offering therapy that conquered his asthma

A new wellness clinic offering innovative Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) has opened its doors in Altrincham, bringing a treatment more commonly found in the US to the local community.

Aeris Clinic, located in Trafalgar House on Manchester Road, joins the building's suite of health and wellness businesses, offering local residents access to a therapy that founder Marvy Nerwan credits with transforming his own health.

The clinic, which opened last week, provides sessions in a specialised chamber where clients breathe pure oxygen in a pressurized environment - a treatment with both established medical applications and a growing list of wellness benefits.

For Nerwan, a Bowdon native with a background in competitive sports and fitness entrepreneurship, launching Aeris Clinic was inspired by his own health transformation.

"I came across this therapy due to my severe asthma," Nerwan explained. "I was looking for something more natural than constantly using inhalers, I didn’t want to spend the rest of my life relying on them."

After trying various natural remedies without lasting success, Nerwan discovered oxygen therapy. "Within the first session I felt great, but the real benefits came after multiple treatments. I’ve almost completely moved away from inhalers, feeling much stronger in my lungs - 99% of the time I'm completely fine. It has transformed my life and I swear by oxygen therapy now."

Sessions take place in a pressurised Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy chamber

This personal experience convinced Nerwan of the treatment's potential, prompting him to establish a dedicated HBOT clinic.

Each session at Aeris Clinic lasts approximately 60 minutes. Clients wear comfortable clothing and enter a spacious chamber that is then pressurized - a process that takes about 5-6 minutes and creates a sensation similar to ascending in an aircraft.

"Some people worry about feeling claustrophobic, but they're surprised by how spacious the chamber actually is," Nerwan said. "During the session, you can use your phone, read a book, or just relax while absorbing pure oxygen. At the end, we simply release the air."

The clinic uses a USA-grade compressor machine, which Nerwan emphasizes provides higher quality treatment than some alternatives on the market.

Nerwan highlights numerous benefits, including people with inflammation, skin conditions and Long Covid, but there is a long list of broader wellness benefits.

"For the general population, you're simply giving your body more of something that's good for it," he said. "Our clients report improved energy levels, better sleep quality and enhanced brain functionality."

The therapy is also gaining popularity among athletes for muscle recovery and performance enhancement. Notable users include Cristiano Ronaldo and Lebron James, as well as celebrities including Samantha Faiers and Justin Beiber.

Nerwan, who competed nationally in tennis as a junior and later in CrossFit competitions, said he understood the importance of recovery in athletic performance.

A key mission for Aeris Clinic is making hyperbaric oxygen therapy more accessible to local residents. While similar treatments elsewhere often cost £100 or more per session, Aeris offers individual one-hour sessions for £50 (first taster session £30), with membership packages reducing the cost to as little as £30 per hour.

"I want to make it much more accessible and available to people in Altrincham and across Cheshire at a reasonable price point," Nerwan said. "That's why we offer free consultations and flexible membership options for those who want to come once or twice weekly."

During sessions, users can use their phone, read a book or just relax while absorbing pure oxygen

The clinic recommends multiple sessions for optimal results, suggesting that the full benefits may become apparent after 5, 10 or even 20 sessions.

Though hyperbaric oxygen therapy is still relatively new to the UK market compared to its popularity in the United States, Nerwan is confident that local residents will embrace the treatment once they experience the benefits firsthand.

"This isn't yet a well-known area of wellness, but people who try it are going to feel the benefits massively," he said. "I believe in this therapy because I've seen what it can do."

Aeris Clinic is open Monday to Saturday, with extended hours (9am to 9pm) on weekdays and morning hours (9am to 2pm) on Saturdays. Appointments are available through their website or via phone consultation.
