Now in its 27th year of business, Dunham Consulting is a laser hair removal clinic based at Dina Scott’s home in Hale.
We asked Dina to tell her more about a business that was originally started by her mum.
ALTRINCHAM TODAY: Dunham Consulting has been in business for 27 years – can you tell us more about your background and how you've managed to stay in business for so long?
DINA SCOTT: I have always been in the beauty industry - my mum, Trish, started her beauty salon, Essentials, back in 1987 so it is something I have grown up with. She always gave each and every one of her clients the very best VIP treatment, so when Dunham Consulting was formed this level of service continued. I guess it is something that just comes natural to me.
AT: What are the most popular treatments you offer at Dunham Consulting?
DS: I’d say laser hair removal and electrolysis are by far the most popular treatments because they work so well!
I also carry out a lot of other “removal” treatments including thread veins, skin needling, skin tags, blood spots, warts, milia, verruca and fungal nails. These treatments are extremely effective and can make a really big difference.
AT: Laser hair removal is your main specialism – can you explain how it works and who it’s best suited for?
DS: So, in simple terms, the energy emitted from the laser reacts with the dark pigment contained in the hair follicle, the heat from this reaction destroys the root of the hair.
There are certain conditions that we have to factor in for the treatment to be successful: the hair itself must be in the correct growth rate, the treatments need to initially be carried out every three weeks to ensure we are treating the hair in the correct cycle, the hair needs to be dark - if the hair is blonde, red, grey or white the treatment will not be successful!
I have used a long pulse Nd:Yag laser for over 20 years - this is the only type of laser that is suitable for all skin types. I have always had fantastic results with this machine.
AT: Your clinic is based at your home in Hale – what advantages does this bring for clients looking for privacy and a more personal experience?
DS: Dunham Consulting has always been attached to a private residence and never on a high street. The treatments we offer are very personal treatments so all of my clients experience extreme privacy and discretion when they come to the clinic.
AT: You’ve built a strong reputation with loyal clients who travel from all over – what do you think keeps people coming back to Dunham Consulting?
DS: That’s quite a tough question to answer. 90% of my clientele are from recommendations which is incredible! All of my clients are important to me and I treat them all on a personal level. I feel very privileged that people are willing to travel from all over the country in order to come to my clinic.
AT: What’s next for Dunham Consulting? Are there any new treatments or developments on the horizon?
DS: Who knows what the future holds, at the moment I am happy that Dunham Consulting is still going from strength to strength as a laser clinic.
