Altrincham’s 24 days of Great British Christmas Markets to launch on Thursday

Altrincham’s Christmas Markets are back – and they are definitely bigger than ever.

Altrincham’s Christmas Markets are back – and they are definitely bigger than ever.

We can reveal details of Christmas at Altrincham Market, with festivities beginning over a week earlier than last year and featuring a total of 24 Christmas markets.

The popular Twilight Market concept, now in its third year, will be extended to include Friday nights as well as Thursday nights, from 5pm until 10pm.

From this weekend, the Saturday and Sunday covered markets will also be specially lit, with a 20-foot Christmas tree to be installed in Market House.

The modern liking for German-influenced Christmas markets will also be shunned in favour of the locally produced, British products that the market is quickly establishing a reputation for.

Nick Johnson, the chief executive of Altrincham Market owner Market Operations, said: “Altrincham will have 24 Great British Christmas Markets, packed with over 80 independent retailers from the North West of England selling quality, individual gifts that aren’t available anywhere else.

“There’ll be all the usual traders serving up Christmas specials, from Honest Crust’s infamous sprout and bacon pizza to Wolfhouse Kitchen Bakery, Tender Cow’s steaks and Sam Joseph’s hand made chocolates, not to mention Christmas ales from Jack in the Box and mulled wines and ciders from Reserve.

“Christmas past and Christmas presents… Alty Market will unquestionably be the place to buy gifts this Christmas, gifts that aren’t available online (or in the high street), a distinctive, unique, ‘honest’ and genuinely rewarding shopping experience, delightfully free from brands.

“Combine that with live music and seasonal food and drink in Market House, and we’d say Christmas is all nicely wrapped up in Alty!”

Fit-out has also begun today on a pop-up cocktail bar from Bitter Twisted that will be operational in the run-up to Christmas. It’s expected to be trading later this week.

The Christmas markets will come at the end of a year that has seen work on the relaunch of the market area completed – with remarkably successful results.

Market Operations estimated that in one six-day period last month, Market House sold 1,400 pizzas, 1,300 cups of coffee, 1,200 pints of beer, 660 handmade chocolates and 600 bottles of wine.
