A new organic café opened in Hale today with a pledge to bring “earth-friendly food” to the village.

The Garden opened its doors in the Ashley Road unit formerly occupied by the Lace bridal shop.

And although the renovation work took a few weeks longer than planned, the team behind it – Kate Donovan and business partner Amy Shepherdson – believe their health-conscious food, including breakfasts, lunches, salads, juices, tonics and smoothies, will prove a winner.

“It’s been a long road getting it to this point,” said Donovan, “but it’s all come together right at the last minute. We’ve had a really fun first day.”

Joining the pair are Donovan’s sister, Laura, and her old Altrincham Girls’ schoolfriend, Danielle.

All smoothies, tonics and juices are cold-pressed downstairs, and they’ve also been working with a nutritionist to ensure the juices and tonics are each designed with a specific health benefit in mind.

They hope a big draw will be their variety of vegan and gluten-free options, but Donovan said there were plenty of non-vegan options too.

“You can add organic bacon or sausage to your full English breakfast,” she said, “and on the salads you can add prawns, salmon or chicken, all sustainably sourced and organic. We also do veg and chicken curry.”

The Garden has enough indoor space for around 40 people, with a decked terrace area at the back and pavement seating at the front.
