Fire crews were last night called to the home of Manchester United star Chris Smalling – after his Jacuzzi caught fire.
The blaze, which started in the back garden of the defender’s Bowdon home shortly after 8pm, is thought to have been started by an electrical fire.
Smalling is not believed to have been at home at the time, and the incident was only spotted when police noticed smoke coming from the property while patrolling the area.

The fire was found to have spread to some decking behind the home.
Watch manager Stuart France, of Altrincham Fire Station, said: “Police were in the area when they spotted smoke and reported a fire to our control centre. When we arrived it was quite a large fire involving a Jacuzzi and decking, which could have easily become something more serious.
“The police officers who were at the scene used a garden hose on the fire and when we arrived we extinguished it using a hose reel.
“The most likely cause was an accidental electrical fault.”
