An Altrincham bar has launched whiskey and gin tasting nights which it says will be “evenings of education and exploration”.
“Exquisite Speakeasy” cocktail bar Riddles, on Greenwood Street, is to hold exclusive evenings limited to just 25 people each which it says will give customers a taste of something completely different to what they are used to drinking.
Riddles’ whiskey tasting event will be held at the bar on Wednesday May 27th – with a special guest appearance from an expert from The Whiskey Shop in Manchester – with the gin tasting night to follow on Wednesday July 15th.
Both events start at 8pm and will last up to two and a half hours. Tickets cost £20 per event and can be bought online here for the whiskey event or here for the gin one.
Emma Rostaing, who opened Riddles with boyfriend Del Lowe back in October, said she hopes the nights will show people a different side to both drinks.

“Some people just think that whiskey is whiskey and gin is gin, but there’s so much variation to both with different infusions, noses and notes,” she said.
“The tasting nights will be fun and sociable and will hopefully encourage people to explore different drinks in the future.”
She added: “Harry from The Whiskey Shop will give a bit of background and history to each drink, and will also talk about the process of how each one is made. It’ll be really interesting.
“Plus you’ll get to drink about seven different whiskeys or gins, so all in all it’s a fun evening!”

Lowe and Rostaing have been pleasantly surprised by the bar’s success since realising a long-held dream by opening last year.
“It’s gone really well and I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else apart from this street,” said Lowe.
“It’s a fantastic atmosphere in this part of town, especially at the weekend. It tends to be a slightly older, more discerning crowd up here, which is perfect for us, it’s what we always wanted.”
The bar’s first year has gone so well, indeed, that Lowe and Rostaing are already looking at a second project in a nearby town.
“We’re hoping to open somewhere else in the next eight months,” said Lowe. “We have a few concepts in our heads that could be different, or we could just see if the Riddles concept could work somewhere else. We’re looking at places like Knutsford, Alderley Edge or Stockton Heath.”
