The initial designs for a new residential building on the site of a former YWCA building on Ashley Road have been revealed.
The developer, Real Estate Investment Partnerships, held a consultation evening at Altrincham Town Hall last night and unveiled plans for the Alexandra House site, which will see the current derelict building demolished.
Steven Slater, a member of the development team, said: “This stage is a public consultation so the plans aren’t set in stone but the idea is to convert a derelict building which has been an eyesore in Altrincham for quite a while to a new design.

“If the public like the idea, the next stages will include the architects drawing up more detailed plans, and a full planning application being submitted to Trafford Council.
“Subject to that being successful, ordinarily we would expect to be on site within three to four months after that decision.”
The current five-storey building, located on the corner of St John’s Road and Ashley Road, used to be a Young Women’s Christian Association (YWCA) hostel, but has been derelict for several years.
The initial designs were put together by Ollier Smurthwaite Architects and include plans for an upmarket building featuring a mix of apartments and one, two and four-bed townhouses.

The consultation evening’s purpose was to gauge public interest and opinion, but some visitors were so enthusiastic about the designs that they were detailing their interest in owning specific apartments on the feedback forms provided.
Ollier Smurthwaite Architects are also involved with a £9m development on the former Transform site in Bowdon.
