The team behind the Altrincham French Festival has unveiled an ambitious programme of new cultural events for 2015-16 to include Santa, Italian and Asian Festivals.
Zainul Sachak, the founder of the Altrincham French Festival which this year brought a record 5,000 visitors to Stamford Park, revealed plans for a total of seven events and festivals for Altrincham between November 2015 and August 2016.
Speaking at Altrincham FC’s Community Sports Hall, Sachak said: “It has always been my intention to help to put Altrincham on the map for cultural events in Greater Manchester as I believe it is a hidden gem with great potential and a strong sense of community.
“My aim is to make Altrincham a cultural gateway into Manchester.”
The new programme sees the return of the Healthy Living and French Festivals, as well as the addition of a number of brand new events for the town.
The full proposed timetable of events is as follows:
- Beaujolais Nouveau Day (Sat 28st November 2015) in Goose Green
- Altrincham Santa Festival (Sat 5th December 2015) in the Stamford Quarter, George Street and Kings Court
- 2nd Altrincham Healthy Living Festival (Sun 21st Feb 2016) in Altrincham town centre
- Altrincham Italian Festival (Sunday 24th April 2016, Manchester Marathon day) in Goose Green
- Fete de la Musique (World Music Day) in June 2016, in various locations around Altrincham and Hale
- 4th Annual Altrincham French Festival (w/c 9th July 2016) in Hale and Altrincham
- Altrincham Asian Festival (Sun 28th August 2016) in Stamford Park
Business and community leaders gathered this evening to hear the plans and sample some of the entertainment from the festivals. Food was provided by Gastronomy of Hale and money was raised for official charity Marie Curie.
Geoff Thompson MBE, the executive chair of The Youth Charter, spoke about the importance of engaging young people through sports, art and culture.
