Altrincham played host to a unique night of boxing as some of its finest young fighters took on an elite team from Dublin.
The Cresta Court Hotel was the venue as Timperley ABC hosted Monkstown ABC in an event backed by construction firm FK Group.
FK has teamed up with charity The Sport Community to help provide opportunities for people to access and enjoy sport. Along with supporting the recent boxing show, the company has funded free boxfit sessions for women from the Broomwood estate in Timperley.
Director Sean Keenan said: “We’re Altrincham-based and want to do our bit in helping to support sport where it needs a lift. It’s also great to see so many talented young boxers test their skills in competitive bouts, so if we can help make these special nights happen, then great.”
Star performers on the night included Timperley’s Ray Davidson who lost a close decision to Darragh Lynch in an excellent bout.
Home fighter Flynn Wilson was victorious in his battle with John Connors, while Timperley’s Clark Smith took the decision in a cracking contest with Dylan Doyle.
Timperley ABC head coach Mark Davidson said: “It’s fantastic to be able to provide our kids with the opportunity to fight in these events. When they have these nights to look forward to, they stay motivated and in the gym which means they’re not sat in front of the TV or hanging around the streets.
“It also inspires the younger kids to keep training so they can take part in competitive shows when they’re old enough.
“It’s very difficult for clubs to raise the money needed to put on these events, that’s why it’s vital we have the support of companies like FK Group. The kids really do appreciate their help.”
