The next phase of a £6m programme of improvements to public realm space in Altrincham town centre is to begin at the end of the month.
This phase will focus on Stamford New Road between its junctions with Cross Street and Regent Road, an area that has suffered in recent years from a high number of vacant units.
The improvements will see the implementation of a new street layout, to include the widening of footpaths, decluttering of existing furniture and planting of new tress.
The work, which are scheduled to be completed by the end of October, follow a first phase of work that was completed towards the end of last year.
That work focused on Shaw’s Road, Cross Street, their intersection with George Street, and the area in front of the transport interchange on Stamford New Road.
Trafford Council Leader, Sean Anstee, said: “The latest development is another step in the huge investment the council is making to transform our town centres.
“Along with the iconic Altair development and by working with our partners and the local business community, we are ensuring Trafford’s town centres are vibrant and attractive areas that people will want to visit and invest in.”
Local residents, landlords and businesses have a chance to direct any questions towards the design team and principal contractor involved at the first of a planned series of update meetings, to be held later this month.
The council said that pedestrian access on Stamford New Road will be maintained throughout the work and that any impact on vehicles travelling around the area kept to a minimum.
