Expanded plans to redevelop one of the least attractive office blocks in Altrincham have been submitted to Trafford Council.
Back in March 2015 we reported how prior approval had been granted to turn Clarendon House on Stamford New Road into 42 residential apartments.
But M&M, which is asset managing the development on behalf of owner Lunar Holdings, has now returned with a full planning application that will see an additional 18 apartments created – and a further two floors added on top, creating an eight-storey building.

The original plan for 16 two-bed, 21 one-bed and five studio apartments has also been changed to 51 two-bed and nine one-bed apartments, with the number of available parking spaces increased to 60.
Clarendon House, which was opened in 1981 as a mixed use development to accommodate retail, Altrincham Library and offices, has been largely unused in recent years.

Three of the five floors (the second, third and fifth) have not been used as offices for at least 11 years. The large main office on the second floor was used by a charity as a furniture store between 2008 and 2011, with a smaller office on the floor occupied for two years until May 2013.
The fourth floor has been vacant since property business Capita Symonds vacated it in April 2006, while the last tenant on the sixth floor was consultancy Mott MacDonald, who vacated in November 2008. All five office floors are currently vacant.
The expanded application probably reflects increased demand and confidence in the residential market in Altrincham, with a number of other residential schemes underway elsewhere in the town centre.
