Trader’s Tiki Bar is to celebrate two years in Altrincham with a special birthday party this Saturday.
The Polynesian-themed bar has become a hugely popular fixture on the Altrincham scene and has played a key role in the revival of Goose Green as a night-time leisure destination.
It now attracts around a thousand customers over a typical Friday and Saturday night, and will mark its second anniversary this Saturday with a special night featuring a live steel Caribbean band, giveaways and drinks offers.
Co-founder Edward Prophet said: “Saturday will be a fantastic night and I’d like to think that over our two years in business, Trader’s has established itself as a real destination and on the back of that, Goose Green has developed as a leisure district. It’s the first themed bar in Altrincham that has really hit the pulse of the people.”
Prophet explained that the original intention was for Traders to be more of a evening bar.
“We managed a tiki bar in Chester but we wanted to see if we could develop something similar closer to home in Altrincham because there wasn’t anything like it around.
“Little did we know it would turn into the bar and nightclub that it’s become,” he said, “but we’ve just gone with the positive flow.”
Prophet revealed the secret behind one of the most popular aspects of the bar, its live music.
“Not a lot of people know this, but we stream a DJ live from Miami. We connect at about 11-12 o’clock and he is the DJ for the night, so all the mixes are live, but he’s just not on the premises.”
He explained: “I was on holiday in Miami and he was a DJ at a pool party, and the mixes he was playing were amazing. I thought ‘this would be perfect for Traders’, so I approached him and he sent through a sample mix which I played, and everyone just loved it. So from then on he was our DJ!”
