Timperley teenager Daniel Hetherington is celebrating a perfect set of 10 A*s as St Ambrose College achieved the Hale Barns school’s best ever progress figures, the Government’s new preferred indices for school attainment.

Daniel will now study Maths, Computing, Chemistry and Business Studies at the school’s sixth form after picking up his impressive haul – with an A hat in Further Maths for good measure.

He said his results were down to “hard work, more hard work and, yes, even more hard work”.

St Ambrose College Principal James Keulemans said: “Daniel is a credit to his family, to St Ambrose and to Timperley and is a pleasure to work with.”

The school overall chalked up a 98% A*-C pass rate, with a total of 22 boys scoring 10 straight A* or A grades.

That was “significantly beyond expectations” given Key Stage Two assessments.

Keulemans added: “We are absolutely delighted with this set of outstanding and in particular the our value added element, which prove that with attention to detail, the development of good working habits and a culture which instils a sheer love of learning, young people can exceed their expectations and have no limits on their future.”
