Students, staff and parents were celebrating today’s GCSE results at Wellington School in Timperley.
With 72% of students achieving five or more GCSEs at A*-C including English and Maths, the school has retained its place as one of the highest achieving non-selective schools in the north west.
As well as exceeding the national average, Wellington School students have also bucked the trend in other areas.
Headteacher Stuart Beeley said: “Despite a significant drop in GCSE results nationally, as in previous years, we have seen the majority of our students achieving outstanding results. Indeed, a large proportion have achieved the very top grades. It has been great to see a huge number of our students achieve A* and A grades right across the board.”
He added: “The fact that this morning has seen wave after wave of smiling faces collecting results is testament to the quality of teaching at Wellington as well as the sheer hard work and determination of our fabulous students. They all thoroughly deserve their success.”
Student Joe Cardoza, who achieved 5 A* and 4 A grades, summed up the mood: “What an amazing day, I can’t really believe it’s all over, but I am so happy. I can’t wait to come back to Wellington in September to start sixth form.”
