Up to 10 bikes were stolen last night in a raid on a Hale bike shop.

The incident, at Hale Cycleworks on Stamford Park Road, happened at around 9.30pm last night.

A van was seen to pull up outside the corner shop before at least two men got out and kicked the door of the recently rebranded shop in.

They escaped with between eight and 10 bikes, said shop manager Steve Stoddart.

Police attended the scene and it’s understood that neighbours managed to take photos of the men involved, and also noted the van’s licence plate.

Hale Cycleworks had only recently rebranded the shop’s frontage having taken over the shop from long-standing previous owner Maurice Braithwaite, who retired in November 2014 having run M & B Braithwaite for over half a century.

We’ll have more details with descriptions of the offenders later.
