Here’s an exclusive first look at Porta, a new Spanish tapas bar, which opens tomorrow yards from Market House.
Altrincham’s latest high-profile restaurant opening is from brothers Ben and Joe Wright, who have enjoyed great success with the original Porta in Chester.
The pair have also been acclaimed for their eponymous Joseph Benjamin restaurant, also in Chester.
Their third restaurant, located on Greenwood Street in the unit previously occupied by With Decorum interiors, is aiming to deliver “the kind of relaxed experience you get when you go and sit in a little bar in Barcelona”.
“It’s not about fancy presentation or swooshes and foams,” Ben told us, “it’s good quality, home-made, freshly made, authentic tapas. The classics are on there – we’re not reinventing the wheel. We import a lot of cured meats and cheeses directly from Spain, and we work with really good producers.”
The brothers chose Altrincham after a deal to open a new restaurant in Manchester’s Northern Quarter fell through, but after first viewing the premises in January, they are delighted to be here.
“We’re over the moon,” added Ben. “The local reception has been fantastic, really friendly. We have a similar vibe in Chester, and that’s what drew us to it really. From the market to Sugo to the guys next door here, there’s a real buzz and it’s exciting to be part of it.”
