Here’s an exclusive first look at The Con Club, a new restaurant, bar and microbrewery opening this weekend on the site of the former Altrincham Conservative Working Men’s Club.

The Italianate-style building on Greenwood Street, which dates back to 1887, has undergone a major transformation and is yet another new opening for Altrincham’s booming dining scene.

It’s all the brainchild of David Vanderhook, who already owns The George Charles pub in Didsbury and Lime bar at Salford Quays, and has led to the creation of around 40 full time and part time jobs.

The main ground floor hall – which formerly housed the Conservative Club’s lobby, members’ bar, function room with games area and changing room – will form the bulk of the dining space with an open galley kitchen, with a private dining and function room upstairs.

The Con Club will be open Monday to Friday from 11am, Saturday and Sunday from 9am, and has a licence until 1am every day, but will probably only be open until that time at weekends.
