Two men have been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 31-year-old in Altrincham on Thursday.

Brothers Aiden Oakes, 26 today, of Peveril Road in Broadheath, and Anton Oakes, 22, of Lee Avenue in Broadheath, have both been charged with murder and section 18 assault.

They have been remanded in custody after appearing at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court this morning and are due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on Thursday 29th December.

Officers were called to The Causeway, off Cross Street, at around 2.40am on Thursday morning to reports of a group of 10 men fighting close to Totties bar.

Police found a man, now named by police as Christopher Thompson, with serious head injuries. He was taken to hospital but sadly died.

The section 18 assault charge relates to an assault against another man.

The Causeway was cordoned off for the entire day on Thursday while police and forensic experts carried out their investigations.
