Hale’s new M&S Food Hall will create 50 new jobs – with 20 of them filled by staff who originally worked at the Co-op that closed down last year.
The new 6,500 sq ft store, located on Ashley Road, has confirmed it will open its doors on Wednesday 1st February at 10am.
The British retail giant had hoped to open in the unit previously occupied by The Co-operative by Christmas, but the launch has been delayed by complications with the fit-out.
A new M&S Food Hall is also opening next month in Chorlton.
And store manager Liz Rushton said: “Whether visiting for a weekly shop, weekend treat or for everyday essentials, both stores will provide an exciting new shopping experience for the community.
“The stores will have a range of tasty food items as well as regular tasting sessions to help shoppers find the best dishes for their occasion. And, with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, our popular ‘Dine In’ offer is the perfect way to treat your loved one.
“All the staff are looking forward to making every moment special for our customers and we are all excited to welcome shoppers at both stores in February.”
The new store will include an in-store bakery as well as a Collect in Store service, allowing customers the option of picking up items ordered from M&S.com at no delivery cost.
And M&S has confirmed that many of the original Co-op’s staff have been hired for the new store.
Opening hours at the new store will be 8am–8pm, Monday to Friday, 8am-7pm on Saturday and 10am–4pm on Sundays.
