It appears that the biggest open secret in town is out – global peri-peri chicken chain Nando’s IS opening a restaurant in Altrincham.
We’ve previously revealed how a CGI image visualising the future tenant of the former McDonald’s site on Stamford New Road had very Nando’s-esque branding.
And we’ve even pulled a fairly successful April Fool’s joke suggesting the Portuguese giant was about to take over Tesco.
But we now have the biggest indicator yet – Nando’s itself is recruiting for a “1st Assistant Manager” for an Altrincham restaurant.
The recruitment blurb goes on: “”Sounds important!” we hear you say. Well, yes. You are right! The 1st Assistant Manager is the General Manager’s right hand man or woman and plays a massive part in the success of the restaurant through inspiring and leading the team.”
A salary of up to £24,000 is on offer, and there’s a closing date for applicants of March 15th.
There’s no official confirmation yet on the location, but the 2,315 sq ft site where McDonald’s once stood – part of the Stamford Quarter – must be the most likely location.
Nando’s, which originated in South Africa and is known for its reasonably-priced chicken dishes, already operates more than 1,000 restaurants across the globe, with almost 300 in the UK and Ireland.
The chain already has 13 restaurants in the Greater Manchester area, but its Trafford Centre restaurant currently the closest to Altrincham.
The site on the corner of Cross Street and Stamford New Road – which was the home to McDonald’s for 23 years before its closure in 2007 – has been undergoing a complete renovation since October.
Lunar, the site’s owners, have also made a significant investment in its refurbishment, with a 20-week programme of improvements set to be completed this month.
