Work has begun on a £2.5m project to expand and refurbish Broadheath Primary School in Altrincham.
Conlon Construction, which was commissioned by Trafford Council through North West Construction Hub, will carry out refurbishment works throughout different areas of the existing building and add a two-storey extension.
The Sinderland Road school was built in 1953 and has since been extended several times but the new scheme will see the school increase its capacity from a two-form entry to three.
The extension will replace the existing single-storey reception block and feature nine classrooms including three for reception pupils. In addition, there will be a new junior class located to the middle of the premises plus a hygiene room, food technology room and new toilets.
The scheme will also include an extension to the current car park, increasing capacity up to 42 spaces as well as creating a designated delivery area next to the school’s kitchen.
A representative from the One Trafford partnership said: “The programme of works has been designed to address the increasing demand for school places in the area. The new facilities will increase capacity, improve facilities as well as better parents’ access to the school.”
