An Altrincham councillor has been charged with making and distributing indecent images of children.
Matthew Sephton, 41, who represents Altrincham on Trafford Council and is also a teacher at Westmorland Primary School in Stockport, is also facing a charge of possessing “extreme pornography”.
Sephton, of Maximus Drive in Broadheath, was suspended from the party and from Trafford Council’s Conservative group after he was arrested by officers from the National Crime Agency (NCA) in December.
He was also suspended from his teaching position pending the outcome of the police investigation.
The NCA has now confirmed he has been charged with four offences relating to indecent images of children, one count of possession of prohibited images and one count of possession of extreme pornography.
He will make an initial court appearance on bail at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court on July 12th.
In a statement, the NCA said: “We can confirm that Matthew Sephton, 41, from Altrincham in Cheshire, has been charged with making and distributing indecent images of children (IIOC).
“He was arrested by officers from the National Crime Agency on 01 December 2016 and was bailed pending further enquiries.
“His first hearing will be on 12 July 2017 at Manchester Magistrates Court.”
