A 26-year-old man has been charged following the collision that led to the death of a 24-year-old cyclist in Timperley yesterday.
Gurparthab Ajay Singh, of Hall Lane in Wythenshawe, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop after road traffic collision and failing to report a road traffic collision.
He remains in custody and is due to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, August 29th.
The female cyclist who died has this afternoon been formally identified as 24-year-old Vicky Myres, a florist from Flixton.
In a statement released through Greater Manchester Police, Vicky’s family said her death had “left a void that we cannot see being filled, ever”.
They said: “Our lovely daughter Vicky Myres has been taken from us at the age of only 24, leaving her mum and dad, sister Rachael, brother Andrew, grandad and grandma, Sarah and Martin – and especially partner James – devastated.
“She had everything to live for, and together with James, had bought a house last year and had just completed Lands End to John O’Groats by bike – over 1,000 miles within 12 full days of cycling.
“Her life was perfect. She lived it to the full and together with her devoted partner James they were planning longer and more exotic trips.
“She had been a vegetarian for a while and more recently had become a vegan and enjoyed working as a florist.
“It’s easy to say your daughter is lovely, but she was – both inside and out.”
PC Phil Shaw, of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), has appealed for anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
He said: “Our thoughts are with Vicky’s family at this difficult time. We have launched a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident and I would ask that anybody with information contacts police.
“We are particularly keen to speak to anyone that may have dash cam or mobile footage of the incident.”
