Altrincham Grammar School for Girls has been named the leading state secondary school in the North West in a major new schools guide.
The school was also named The Sunday Times State Secondary School of the Year in Parent Power, The Sunday Times Schools Guide 2018, published in The Sunday Times and online this Sunday.
The 25th edition of Parent Power identifies the 2,000 highest-achieving schools in the UK, ranked by their recent examination results.
Nationally, Altrincham Grammar Schools for Girls moved up five places to 6th, its best place in the last decade. Its academic gains this year included a 2.3% rise in the proportion of A* to B grades at A-level, topping out at 92.7%, while 86% of entries were A*/A grades at GCSE, a 5.6% increase.

I think it is a fitting reward for our staff who have worked very hard to ensure that curriculum change has been implemented with as smooth a transition as possible to enable our students to achieve at the highest levels.
“It reflects the power of offering an all-round education, which focuses not just on academic achievement but on the development of leadership and resilience by providing a wide-range of extra-curricular opportunities and maintaining a clear focus on wellbeing.”

The new guide represented a remarkable performance for Altrincham schools generally.
Four Altrincham schools were placed in the top eight in the top 10 North West state secondary schools table.
As well as Altrincham Grammar School for Girls at number one, Altrincham Grammar School for Boys was ranked third, with Loreto Grammar sixth and St Ambrose College eighth.
